Our Story Through the Years
Founded with a shared passion for the game, Scunthorpe Chess Club (Live for Chess) has grown into a vibrant community where players of all ages and abilities come together. Over the years, we’ve welcomed complete beginners, casual players, and seasoned competitors — each bringing their own unique style to the board.
From friendly games on quiet evenings to exciting tournament matches, our club has always been about more than just chess. It’s about friendship, learning, and the joy of testing your mind against a worthy opponent. Whether you’re here to improve your game or simply enjoy the atmosphere, you’ll find a place in our history — and our future.

♟ Anti-Chess
The goal here is the opposite of normal chess — you try to lose all your pieces! Captures are compulsory, and the strategies can be surprisingly tricky.
♟ King of the Hill
Win by getting your king to one of the four central squares. It’s fast-paced and forces you to think about king movement in a whole new way.
♟ Three-Check Chess
Instead of checkmating, your aim is to check your opponent’s king three times. Quick games and bold attacks are the name of the game.

♟ Reverse Chess
Similar to Anti-Chess, but with its own set of rules and quirks — great for testing your creativity.
♟ Bughouse
Played in pairs, where captured pieces from your board can be passed to your teammate to drop into play. It’s chaotic, social, and loads of fun.
